Materials Needed - can you help?

The Project Space is a not-for-profit platform for the visual and creative arts. Based on Commercial Street in Newport, we bring creative and visual art directly to the public. We support groups putting on events in our community, sign post other creative spaces across the city, as well as deliver our own programme of performances, exhibitions, workshops and activities in the heart of the city.

To do this, we need your help; our biggest cost in delivering these events and workshops are materials, most of which we are able to resource, reuse and recycle through out the year. Some items though, we need a little more help to find, either as donations or supplied to us at a reduced rate.

Currently we need:

Plastic bottles

Golf clubs (kids and adult sized)

Old carpet or rugs (in reasonable condition)

Pipes (plumbing or guttering in type, off cuts / surplus only)

Sofas and / or armchairs (in reasonable condition)

If you can help, please get in touch with us at – we’ll happily collect materials at a time convenient to you. Or, if you’re passing, pop in, drop them off and say hello.

All contributions, big or small, go a long way 🙂

This September in partnership with The Riverfront Theatre & Arts Centre, The Project Space is proud to welcome STORE to Newport as part of the programmes Welsh tour.

FREE ENTRY – 10am to 4pm – Wednesday 24th – Saturday 27th September 2014

Please note: Cost of performances will vary.

STORE is a shop. Art is a business. Come and buy performances!

A shopping experience like no other. Fancy a take-away, or a special delivery? How about a cheap copy?

Enter STORE and you are invited to peruse a menu of over sixty mini performances. Choose, and then watch as your purchase is performed especially for you.

STORE is a totally unique experience as Austrian and Japanese artists Matsune & Subal play humorously with the idea of a successful business chain. Prices start at 50p – art really is affordable for everyone.

With over a dozen previous global outlets including Vienna, Paris, Kyoto and New York, STORE now comes to a shop near you – don’t miss it!

STORE is a project by international artists Michikazu Matsune (Japan) & David Subal (Austria), produced by Migrations.

“Migrations presents a series of contemporary dance performances featuring high profile international artists – an exciting window onto today’s contempory dance landscape. I passionately believe you don’t need to be a dance expert to appreciate these works. They simply re-interpret our world, often question it and sometimes offer answers – but always with a fascinating and engaging intensity.”

Karine Décorne, Curator

For more information about Migrations and to find out the latest details on the project, locations and opening times, please visit

Well, we’re into September, and my oh my how quickly this Summer has flown! After a two week break, we’re proud to welcome back Wolverine and Capoeira Newport to The Project Space, this time with two session each week!

Capoeira is a unique Brazilian art form that combines kicks, acrobatics, and music. Unless played professionally, Capoeira is widely practised as a non-contact sport. Rather than knocking down an opponent, the emphasis is on physical skill developing balance, strength and flexibility. Played to songs and instruments, music is integral to capoeira, setting the tempo and style of game played by all.

Capoeira is particularly great for dancers and is suitable for all ages and skill levels. For those new to Capoeira, or simply curious, pop in to one of the sessions and have a go yourself! Comfy clothing and sensible footwear advised.

MONDAYS (Children’s session Age 7 – 12) – 6pm – 7pm £4 per person

THURSDAYS (Adult Session Age 13+) 7pm – 8pm £4 per person

For more information – please contact Wolverine via

Classes are with Wolverine from group Nucleo de Capoeiragem
