FREE – Tuesday 3rd March – 5:30pm – Viewer discretion advised.

As part of our current exhibition, DRIFT by 2nd year BA (Hons) Photographic Art students from the University of South Wales, we will be hosting a performance by artist James Moore of his piece AWAKENING which features in the show.

The exhibition DRIFT showcases artwork produced as a result of a site-specific brief responding to ‘The RIver’, where they have integrated themselves within the local community, each individually responding and creating a diverse range of personal and explorative art whose themes address local heritage, community, and the power of the river.

This performance is a controlled exercise of immersion in water, as a representation of a fear of drowning. The artist will submerge his head into the bowl of water until he is out of air. He will do this until he cannot continue. The performance projects him into the reality of his fear – to overcome it he must attempt to confront it. Viewer discretion is advised as the performance may include scenes some viewers find upsetting.

The exhibition continues until Thursday 5th March 2015, and is open between 10am and 4pm daily.
For more information about the exhibition DRIFT and to contact the artists, please visit: https://www.facebook.com/events/1589111567969857

The Project Space is very proud to present a selection of photographs from the portfolio of NME Magazine’s Photography Award winner of 2013, Tiegan Neary. Exhibited in support of Newport’s Record Store Day event, Neary’s work captures the variety and vivacity of the South Wales music scene in all it’s glory.

Based in South Wales, Neary photographs across the United Kingdom, and has had her work published in magazines and newspapers around the world including The Guardian, Fuze (German music magazine), NME, Plugged In, Liverpool Echo, South Wales Argus and The Metro. She is also the South Wales photographer for punktastic.com, providing photographs for gig reviews on their website. Photographing bands performing in small local venues to huge arenas, Neary estimates she has photographed 400 bands since she took up photography seriously 4 years ago.

Neary entered NME Magazine’s Photography Awards competition in 2013, where she had two photographs shortlisted in the Under 18’s category of the competition. With her photograph of When We Were Wolves the eventual winner of her category, her work was then entered into the Grand Prix (overall award selected from the winners of the competitions five categories), which she also went on to win.

This exhibition is currently open to the public:

Tuesday and Wednesday, 10:00 – 16.00 (and otherwise by appointment)
