The closing date for entries is FRIDAY 12th December 2014.

The judging panel made up of representatives from the University of South Wales, South Wales Argus and Western Power, will meet during the following weeks to select a shortlist of winners whose work will go on display here at The Project Space between Thursday 8th January until Saturday 31st January 2015.

In addition, we’re teaming up with the Art Foundation tutors at University of South Wales to run two workshops o:

Well, we’re into September, and my oh my how quickly this Summer has flown! After a two week break, we’re proud to welcome back Wolverine and Capoeira Newport to The Project Space, this time with two session each week!

Capoeira is a unique Brazilian art form that combines kicks, acrobatics, and music. Unless played professionally, Capoeira is widely practised as a non-contact sport. Rather than knocking down an opponent, the emphasis is on physical skill developing balance, strength and flexibility. Played to songs and instruments, music is integral to capoeira, setting the tempo and style of game played by all.

Capoeira is particularly great for dancers and is suitable for all ages and skill levels. For those new to Capoeira, or simply curious, pop in to one of the sessions and have a go yourself! Comfy clothing and sensible footwear advised.

MONDAYS (Children’s session Age 7 – 12) – 6pm – 7pm £4 per person

THURSDAYS (Adult Session Age 13+) 7pm – 8pm £4 per person

For more information – please contact Wolverine via www.facebook.com/capoeira.newport

Classes are with Wolverine from group Nucleo de Capoeiragem

Roll up roll up! It’s the week before Newport’s Big Splash festival kicks off in our city, and to help get us all in the festival mood, The Project Space are running daily make and take workshops through out the half term holidays leading up to the main event.

Workshops start this Saturday and bank holiday Monday with drop in sessions for the whole family to make recycled junk instruments and balloon costumes between 10am – 4pm, with beach themed colouring in also available on the day!

On Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, we’re joined by Tony Balloonman ( http://www.balloon-man.webs.com) who’ll be giving us some expert tips on making balloon costumes to wear on the big day.

On Friday, we’ll also be making our own hula hoops and practising our moves, getting in the party spirit for Saturday.

For the parade itself, meet at The Project Space at 12:30 ready to Samba our way down to Newport’s Red Wave guided by our lovely event stewards – more info on the picture below.
